M. Hildred Blewett Scholarship

Red arrow  2009 Application Deadline has passed.
APS offers women the opportunity to apply for the Blewett Scholarship. The scholarship consists of a one-year award of up to $45,000 to enable early-career women to return to physics research careers after an interruption, usually for family reasons.  Applicants may apply in a subsequent year for one additional year of support.

Professional Skills Development Workshops

One-day workshops for women post-doctoral associates and women faculty in physics are offered in association with the APS annual meetings. These workshops will be offered in 2010; details will be posted here as they become available.

Improving the Climate for Women in Physics

The Climate for Women in Physics Site Visit program helps physics departments and research facilities improve the "chilly climate" that women in physics often experience.

Special Events and Opportunities - APS Annual Meetings

CSWP sponsors or co-sponsors a variety of events of special interest to women (and others) in physics at the APS annual meetings.  These events include invited sessions as well as opportunities for networking, such as breakfasts, luncheons, and receptions.

Childcare Grants
Small grants of up to $400 are available to assist APS meeting attendees who are bringing small children with them to annual APS meetings (March or April), or who incur extra expenses in leaving their children at home (i.e., extra daycare or babysitting services).

What People Say About the APS  Childcare Grants
From Nature, 30 April 2009, "Grants aim to help women"

"I must say this program was very helpful for me, as it covered about half of my costs of bringing my child with me. Otherwise, I wouldn't have brought her and couldn't attend the full conference."

"I am very grateful for the childcare grant since it allowed me to pay partially the expenses incurred by traveling with my own babysitter. I think this type of initiative is really important and deserves to be continued on a regular basis."

New "Celebrate Women in Physics" PosterAPS 2008-09 Celebrate Women in Physics poster

This full color poster highlights women physicists actively pursuing their work. The free poster is 16" x 20" and fits easily on a door or desk.

The Maria Goeppert Mayer Award recognizes and enhances outstanding achievements by women physicists in the early years of their careers and provides opportunities for them to present these achievements to others through public lectures.
